Over the weekend, I travelled to Sapporo for the Viessmann FIS Ski Jumping World Cup to support an athlete from one of the companies I work with.
While Saturday brought relatively calm conditions, Sunday turned into a historic day, with record-breaking snowfall — the heaviest ever observed. The way the officials and support teams sensed subtle changes in the snowfall, paused the competition, sent out test jumpers between rounds, and carefully decided when to resume truly highlighted the remarkable teamwork behind a sport that exists in close harmony with nature. I was deeply impressed, and I would like to express my sincere respect to everyone involved who made it possible to hold the event under such challenging conditions.
That said, the aftermath was quite an adventure… With transportation systems partially shut down, I couldn’t make it to the airport and had to extend my stay unexpectedly. It turned into a rather eventful business trip — to say the least.
